Neuma Unveils Fourth Generation CM+

ALM Expo and Ottawa, Canada - September 14, 2005 - Neuma Technology today announced the availability of the next major release of its Configuration Management/ALM suite. CM+ Enterprise 6.0 will be available for initial beta testing later this month. The 6.X series of releases will bring CM+ Enterprise to the level of a fourth generation CM suite. CM+ Enterprise 5.X is currently the industry's most advanced, and perhaps the only, third generation CM suite.

Whereas third generation CM capabilities include features such as stream-based change management, active workspace management, full transaction journals and specification free context views, a fourth generation CM system goes much further.

"A fourth generation product does not just add feature capabilities, it brings down costs dramatically and provides unsurpassed reliability", suggests Joe Farah, Neuma's President and CEO. "To do this, you need to be able to scale the system so that a single server can support thousands of users - no more partitioning of your database across servers or sites. On the other hand, multi-site capabilities must support fully synchronous replication so that everyone has access to the same information, regardless of location. And in today's unpredictable world, hot-standby disaster recovery is a must."

CM+ Enterprise 6.0 addresses the need to rapidly migrate from 32-bit to 64-bit architectures, and back again if necessary, and to migrate from Unix to Windows to Linux servers with little, if any, down time. This is important to IT infrastructure planners who have to try to predict where technology is headed. "They don't need a backbone application forcing their hand", added Farah.

Among the several dozen features added to the 6.0 suite is the ability to load in a source tree, or even to update it in the repository, through a simple drag-and-drop operation. Changes performed off-line can be automatically submitted to the repository with a wizard helping, when necessary, to resolve potential ambiguities, such as when a file has moved from one directory to another, or when directory has been renamed.

"The fourth generation product must go the last mile in fully automating Configuration Management so that users and managers can focus on Change Management, Product Management and Process", stated Paul Bérubé, Neuma's Director of CM Product Engineering. "Teams get so caught up in CM and branching strategies, labeling, pulling together release notes, and trying to compare a customer's current capabilities to the new release, that their focus is removed from their key objectives. The CM tool is supposed to automate the tedious tasks and eliminate complexities. When that happens costs are driven down dramatically and the benefits of the tool are more clearly visible."

Neuma expects CM+ Enterprise 6.0 to be available to existing customers later this year, with general availability early in 2006.
