Bookham Deploys Trans-Atlantic Synchronous Multi-Site
Solution
Ottawa - June 3, 2004 - Neuma Technology, provider of
advanced solutions to manage the automation of the software development
lifecycle, confirmed today that Bookham, a global leader in the design,
manufacture and marketing of optical components, modules and subsystems, has
deployed CM+ MultiSite to its global Optical Subsystems Software team.
Bookham needed a full-featured SCM/PM solution to support
its global team of developers. After an evaluation of several vendors, they
turned to Neuma Technology Inc. Neuma provides the world's most advanced
solution to manage the automation of the software development lifecycle.
"We were looking for a fully integrated configuration
management system with low administration costs to be used by a multi-site
development team," states Rick Wedge, leader of the Optical Subsystems software
team at Bookham, "Neuma was selected due to the level of integration of it's
tools (including a number of add-on's that we didn't expect), its ease to
set-up and maintain, the flexibility to modify the tools to meet our needs, its
lower cost relative to similarly capable tools, and the obvious interest of the
Neuma staff to understand and support my business."
CM+ manages all problem tracking, change management, version
control and build tracking at three development sites in Canada and the UK. CM+
MultiSite automatically keeps all sites synchronized so that any project
stakeholder, anywhere in the world, has immediate access to software changes
made elsewhere. CM+'s industry leading change-package model and fully
integrated suite of applications means Bookham spends less time managing
configurations and more time advancing their product development.
"We're very happy with the system, and the technical support
from Neuma is the best we've seen from any vendor. We like the fact that the
servers take care of themselves, automatically synchronizing our three sites in
real time across the Atlantic," confirms Paul Beer, Senior Software Designer
for Bookham's Optical Subsystems software team.
With built-in support for process-centric SCM, CM+
Enterprise was deployed in its out of the box configuration so that Bookham
could get started quickly. After the system was up and running, Bookham began
configuring the standard processes to match their existing problem tracking and
change management policy.
"They didn't have time to stop and configure a CM system,
nor did they have time to figure out a branching, merging and labeling strategy
for a multi-site development team, which are pre-requisites for most SCM
systems," explains Paul Bérubé, director of CM+ product
engineering at Neuma, "In CM+ all you need to get started is a product roadmap.
CM+ handles the rest, automatically branching code when required and
automatically aligning approved changes into a new product configuration. The
risk factor disappears."
Installation, configuration, user-training and the migration
of tens of thousands of source files were all completed in three weeks, with
most of that time spent in scheduling training at three development sites.
